AMSNY’s Government Relations Committee traveled to Washington for annual Advocacy Day

On July 11, 2011 Jo Wiederhorn, President and CEO of AMSNY, members of the AMSNY Board of Trustees and representatives from AMSNY’s Government Relations Committee traveled to Washington, DC for the organization’s annual Washington Advocacy Day. AMSNY representatives met with members of the legislature and congress, including Congressmen Joseph Crowley, Peter King, Nita Lowey, Charles Rangel and Paul Tonko. Meetings were also held with Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa and David Bergeron, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education at the US Department of Education. The group discussed the impact the potential cuts in Medicaid, Medicare, (including GME) and NIH would have on New York State’s academic medical centers.
