committee description

Oliver Fein, MD
Chair
Global Health Committee
The Global Health Committee promotes excellence in global health medical education through intra-institutional sharing of ideas and resources related to the promotion of global health, including curriculum, core competency development, and the development of collaborative programmatic endeavors. There is a growing interest among health professional schools in health problems that transcend national borders. These concerns have been embraced by the term “Global Health.” Schools have established Global Health Centers and Offices of Global Health Education. Some schools have developed long-term research collaborations; others have adopted a “twinning” strategy with schools in resource-poor countries; and, others have participated in activities with non-governmental organizations.
Established as a standing committee of AMSNY in September of 2009, the Global Health Committee is unique in that it brings together educators from medical schools, dental schools, affiliate nursing schools, and public health schools to discuss collaborative efforts and resource sharing in order to ensure efficient Global Health interventions and programs.
