2010 Symposium of the AMSNY Medical Education Committee
The 2010 Symposium of the Medical Education Committee of AMSNY will focus on The Challenge of Competence in the Medical School Curriculum. The Symposium is scheduled to take place in November, 2010.
Session Goal: The goal of the symposium is to share ideas and information with regard to competency-based education. Presentation/publication of the symposium results is a longer-term goal.
Session Objectives:
1. Identify the challenges of Competence in the Medical School Curriculum
2. Develop skills related to:
- Curriculum design and development around competencies
- Assessment and evaluation of competencies
- Performance portfolios to demonstrate competencies
3. Develop a consensus on assessment of competence across the curriculum:
In roundtables, basic science, clinical educators and residency directors, will discuss the concept of competence:
- At entrance to medical school
- During the medical school years
- At entrance to residency
4. Application:
- Next steps—applying today’s work at home institutions
- Where will we go in the future? Possible predictors of future competencies
