Remediation Working Group

This working group is discussing the remediation of students with clinical skills deficits. Currently, members are reviewing a proposal for a grading rubric developed by faculty at NYU School of Medicine to assess students’ clinical skills. The AMSNY Clinical Consortium Committee will sponsor a statewide pilot project comparing the NYU rubric with other scoring formats used at several member schools.

As an initial step in the pilot, the remediation working group devised a survey to determine the practices of other AMSNY member schools with regard to assessment of students’ clinical skills. The response rate to the survey was 100%.

Scholarship

Members of the remediation working group facilitated a session at the 2009 AAMC Annual Meeting, “On That Note: A Discussion of the Obstacles and Opportunities for Assessing Clinical Reasoning through the Patient Note”.

Remediation working group members presented the results of the patient note survey at the 2010 Ottawa Conference on Clinical Competence: “The Use of the Post Encounter SOAP Note to Assess Clinical Reasoning”.
