Remediation Working Group

Members of the Remediation workgroup are reviewing a proposal for a grading rubric developed by faculty at NYU School of Medicine to assess students’ clinical skills. The AMSNY Clinical Consortium Committee will sponsor a statewide pilot project comparing the NYU rubric with other scoring formats used at several member schools.

As an initial step in the pilot, the remediation working group devised a survey to determine the practices of other AMSNY member schools with regard to assessment of students’ clinical skills. The response rate to the survey was 100%. Members of the remediation working group facilitated a session at the 2009 AAMC Annual Meeting, “On That Note: A Discussion of the Obstacles and Opportunities for Assessing Clinical Reasoning through the Patient Note”. A proposal was also submitted to the 2010 Ottawa Conference on Clinical Competence based on the survey mentioned above, “The Use of the Post Encounter SOAP Note to Assess Clinical Reasoning: Survey by the Clinical Consortium of the Associated Medical Schools of New York”.
