Medical Education Committee

Medical education is fundamental for preparing future physicians in New York State to meet the demands of practice in the 21st Century.  Medical education also has a significant impact on the State economy, with New York State training approximately 11% of the nation's medical students and 17% of the nation's residents. 

 

The Medical Education Committee of AMSNY is a standing committee with representatives from each of the fifteeen medical schools in New York State. The Committee meets quarterly to address issues of concern to the New York medical schools, to share best practices and to work toward the Committee's mission.


The mission of the Medical Education Committee is to promote excellence in medical education through collaboration in developing educational methods, devising assessment techniques and sponsoring research initiatives. In addition to regular meetings, the Committee holds Symposia annually on  topics of special interest to the schools.


Between meetings, Sub-committees continue collaboration on initiatives that advance the Committee's mission. The sub-committees of the Medical Education Committee are:


Clinical Consortium Sub-Committee: This committee focuses on the development of cases for teaching and assessing clinical skills and remediation of students’ clinical skills defecits


The Sub-Committee for Medical Education in the Neurosciences: This committee focuses on neurosciences curriculum across the four years of medical school.
